Portfolio Intelligence
Getting development programme research to the investors and partners who needed to act on it
Situation
Élan RDC, a UKAID-funded programme reducing poverty in the DRC through improved incomes for smallholder producers and entrepreneurs, needed its research and results to reach national, provincial, and practitioner audiences — and to demonstrate credible impact to its UK funder. The broader challenge: complex programme intelligence sitting in reports that never reached the investors, policy audiences, and practitioners who would act on it.
Approach
Identified and targeted 92 content platforms reaching the practitioners, investors, and policy audiences relevant to the programme's objectives. Created and edited 30 content pieces designed for each platform's audience. Implemented a tracking and adaptive management framework to document how the programme's approach was working in a fluid environment — and presented findings directly to DFID in a learning workshop.
Outcome
68.4% publication success rate across targeted platforms. 333,000 total reach across committed content channels. Research and results reached the practitioner and investor audiences the programme needed to influence. DFID learning workshop directly informed how the programme communicated adaptive management to its funder.

"Discovered Markets came in and had a tremendous impact on the programme. They worked with our teams across access to finance, renewable energy, and agriculture — helping us organise our thinking around key impacts and lessons. They made it comfortable to talk about challenges. One of their most important contributions was their work on Adaptive Management — they really helped us capture the essence of our approach to working in such a complex environment. We had confidence in their grasp of the programme and asked them to present to DFID in a learning workshop. I would recommend them without hesitation."
